Training: Vermont Lobbying & Communications Bootcamp on 11/15

Presented by Common Good Vermont and KSE Partners, LLP government affairs & strategic communications.  This event is a brass-tacks training for nonprofits, activists, community leaders, students, educators  and small-business owners for raising their profile in the Vermont Legislature and developing a voice in government. The event is Part I of a two part series of lobbying and advocacy training presented by Common Good Vermont.

Lobbying & Communications Boot Camp:  How to Raise Your Profile & Get Your Way in an Age of Distraction

DESCRIPTION: When the Legislature opens in January 2012, Vermont lawmakers will make decisions that affect you and the organizations and issues you care about. This year’s Lobbying & Communication Bootcamp will equip you with the knowledge, contacts and skills you need to deliver compelling messages, wage effective legislative campaigns and raise your profile in state government.  Presented by some of the most experienced and successful legislative operators in the state, you will understand how Vermont government works, know who you need to talk to and have and access the tools you need to expand your reach and get bills passed.

9:30 – Welcome and Opening Remarks with Governor Peter Shumlin: “The Statehouse Belongs to You” - House Chamber

10 AM – Blueprint for Successful Legislative Campaigns with Kevin Ellis and Todd Bailey, KSE Partners - House Chamber

10:30 – 12 PM – Choose From:

  • Prepare the Ground: The basics of raising your profile in the Vermont Statehouse including do’s and don’ts, how to make yourself known and talk to key influencers. - Room 10, First Floor of Statehouse.
  • Design the Perfect Campaign: Interactive Case Studies with Experienced Lobbyists - Committee Rooms, First Floor of Statehouse.

12 – 1 PM – Lunch – Statehouse Cafeteria

1 – 2 PM – When the Rubber Meets the Road: What Happens to Well Laid Strategies & Campaigns When you Get to the Statehouse Panel of lobbyists and legislators comment on morning case studies and discuss what really happens when your campaign comes to the Statehouse - House Chamber.

2:30 – 3 PM – Ask the Experts: One-on-one “technical assistance” on your questions and campaign from experienced Vermont lobbyists - House Chamber.
