Burlington Ward 6 NPA Meeting 09/02/2010
Neighborhood Planning Assemblies (NPAs) are grassroots, neighborhood organizations that were established in each of Burlington's seven Wards to encourage citizen participation in City government. Working as neighborhood advocacy groups, Neighborhood Planning Assemblies help improve communication between the citizens of Burlington and City government through regular meetings scheduled in each Ward. Ward 6 meets the first Thursday of the month. Meeting place: Greek Orthodox Church 600 South Willard Street.
Whistle Where You Work: Genetically Modified Food; WikiLeaks, ep. 28 08/30/2010
WWYW is a multimedia program focusing on issues of accountability, that is produced by the Government Accountability Project, the nation’s leading whistleblower protection and advocacy organization. Episode 28, Genetically Modified food has been a part of the American diet for several yeaqrs-and it's everywhere. 85 percent of U.S. corn, 91 percent of U.S. soybeans. Now, a proposed genetically modified salmon has close to receiving FDA approval. What are the public health risks? The current regulations/legislation covering this new technology? Guests include representatives from Food & Water Watch, and Friends of the Earth. In the second part of the program, the whistleblower website WikiLeaks has caused widespread controversy. Jesselyn Radack discusses WikiLeaks, as well as the cases of Bradley Manning and Thomas Drake, two national security whisltleblowers who are being prosecuted by their own government.
