JUMP Celebrates 30 Years Serving the Community 09/13/2018

Wanda Hines, Director of the Joint Urban Ministry Project (JUMP), and Ron Pynn, JUMP President of the Board of Directors, speak with Run for JUMP Event Coordinator Jeffrey Mandell about their upcoming 30th-year celebration. On December 1, from 5:30-8:30 pm at the Elks Club, Burlington, JUMP will be celebrating 30 years of giving to our community. and assisting families living in poverty in Chittenden County. The Planning Commission is responsible for setting out land use and development policies for the City, as adopted by the City Council. Vermont statute lays out broad policies; these are tailored locally in each community.

Neighborhood Planning Assemblies (NPAs) are grassroots, neighborhood organizations that were established in each of Burlington's seven Wards to empower citizen participation in City government. Working as neighborhood advocacy groups, Neighborhood Planning Assemblies facilitate communication between the citizens of Burlington and city government through regular meetings scheduled in each Ward. Wards 1 & 8 meet the second Wednesday of the month.

On this episode, we talk about the 2018 Vermont World Cup. Not only are Migrant Farmworkers organizing to change Vermont and the world, but we also find the time to play hard. Soccer is a central part of our communities and a way of making community. The tournament was a success, drawing over 200 community members and allies to score for justice.

We also talk about what's happening with immigration nationally and in our state’s current efforts to continue to make Vermont a better place to live.

CCTV Center for Media & Democracy is pleased to announce receipt of a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Humanities Collections and Reference Resources grant alongside 32 peer archival institutions across the country.
