Tuesday, 12/22 - Deadline for Proposals -  Vermont Nonprofit Maven Series - In 2010, Common Good Vermont is launching a Vermont Nonprofit Maven Series to be featured on the new website's "Learning Center" and be produced/ aired across the state in a variety of formats.  As an experienced presenter and Vermont nonprofit capacity builder, we hope you will consider being the host or guest of a individual or panel presentation (20 to 90 minutes) that can produced at a nearby community access channel, at Vermont Interactive TV locations or via desktop webinars. Regular episodes of VT Nonprofit Mavens will be featured on the Learning Center of www.CommonGoodVT.org when it launches later this month and distributed with the help of community access channels across the state. We've received 20 proposals as of the completion of this newsletter so please get yours in soon!

Monday,  January 11 -Common Good Vermont Annual Meeting – Join us for Common Good Vermont’s Annual Meeting to hear a full report on the progress of the nonprofit capacity building project, unveiling of the website (www.CommonGoodVt.org) and nonprofit database prototype. Keynote speaker is Vermont Community Foundation’s President Stuart Comstock-Gay, who will present a report on the state of philanthropy in Vermont. When: January 11 from 12 – 2 30 p.m. at CCTV Center for Media & Democracy’s offices, 294 North Winooski Ave., Burlington. RSVP here.

Geographic information systems (GIS) and online mapping applications continue to become more powerful and easier to use every year.  Nonprofit and community organizations around the globe are harnessing these tools to mobilize supporters and advocates, to tell their stories and the stories of their constituents, and to share knowledge with people, organizations, and communities everywhere. From the CommunityFrom Bob Purvis of Hardwick, via Common Good Vermont listserv. On Monday the Wall Street Journal published a special section on philanthropy. There are several good pieces in it, but I'd  particularly recommend the cover piece by Pablo Eisenberg, titled,   "What's Wrong With Charitable Giving: How to Fix It." He lists 9 ways that foundations and wealthy individuals can better meet the needs of  charities and address some of our most urgent public needs.  Read here. Respond to the post  here
