Uncommon Alliance; Youth and Family Summer Engagement Update 06/20/2011
Uncommon Alliance's primary goal is to dismantle racial and ethnic profiling in our criminal justice system. This objective is realized by building positive relationships between members of affected communities and criminal justice professionals, and by providing continuing opportunities for dialogue and study around issues of race. Wanda Hines, Uncommon Alliance Sterring Committee member hosts the Youth Outreach Planning Committee comprised of community member Julio Perez, Winooski Police Chief Steve McQueen, and Service Rendered Director Bruce Wilson, on the ongoing efforts and events towards engaging youth of all ages in positive activities.
Serving and Learning from our New Neighbors in a Multicultural Environment 02/16/2011
The 2nd Annual conference developed by the Committee fro Diversity Initiatives of the College of Educatoin and Social Services at the University of Vermont. Keynote speaker L. Michelle LeBaron, Professor of Law and Director of the University of British Columbia Program on Dispute Resolution. The keynote will be followed by a panel presentation on 'Perspectives on Living and Working in Vermont and discussion groups on professional practice issues. Sponsoring the conference: Agency of Human Services' Refugee Office, Burlington Police Department, Burlington School District, Vermont Multicultural Alliance for Democracy, The Howard Center and King Street Center.

The objective of this data collection effort is to promote accountablity and transparency of law enforcement officers, especially when dealing with members of minority communities. Moderated by Wanda Hines with participation by Burlington, Winooski and South Burlington Police Chiefs Schirling, McQueen and Whipple, Christine Longmore, Cofounder of Uncommon Alliance, Robert Appel of the Vermont Human Rights Commission, Jeanine Bunzigiye and Haskell Garrett, community members. The event is sponsored by Uncommon Alliance and Local Law Enforcement.

Chief Whipple (South Burlingon) shows the current shortcomings of police facility on Dorset street. He explains the benefits of moving to a new location and tours the prospective new facility on Gregory Drive. Whipple explains the transaction process with Robert Miller and how the city is benefiting and paying for the purchase of the new sight.
Uncommon Alliance - Race Data Collection by Winooski Police 09/11/2008
A Community Discussion on a new initiative in which officers record their observation of the race of the people stopped in motor vehicles. The objective of this data collection effort is to promote accountablity and transparency of law enforcement officers, especially when dealing with members of minority communities.
