Essex Junction Planning Commission 05/21/2015

This meeting takes public input on proposed improvements to the train station. The five members of the Planning Commission are appointed by the Village Trustees. The commission meets on the first and third Thursday of each month to review development applications, update the Land Development Code and assist in the update of the Comprehensive Plan. Shelagh Cooley hosts the Coordinator of the Vermont Community Alliance for Public Transportation Charles Norris-Brown and the transportation historian Don MacDonald to discuss the upcoming Stand Up for Transportation Day on April 9th.

With the future of America’s public transportation, roads, bridges and rail systems on the line, transportation and community leaders from across the country will unite on April 9, 2015 to highlight “Stand Up for Transportation Day.” Sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), with support from national and local partners from transportation organizations, business and community oriented interests, Stand Up for Transportation Day will unite the voices of 216 participating organizations in more than 140 communities across the country to focus on the urgency of the passage of a long-term, federal transportation bill.

The current federal transportation funding bill, Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act (MAP-21), is set to expire on May 31, 2015. Without a long-term federal transportation funding bill, Vermont and communities across the country will face tremendous uncertainty. Transportation is the backbone of our local and national economy. A long-term transportation bill is needed for better and expanded transportation options, and to continue to grow our economy.

The Vermont Community Alliance for Public Transportation (VCAPT) seeks to provide a strong, diverse community voice for public transportation in order to promote safe, adequate, physically accessible public transportation options for the sake of our Vermont environment and community. Circumferential Highway Alternatives Task Force Meeting #12 11/07/2013

Since the Governor's May 20, 2011 announcement that the Circumferential Highway - as originally conceived - would not be built, the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission (CCRPC) Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) staff has been coordinating with VTrans, the "CIRC Communities" (Colchester, Essex, Essex Junction, and Williston), and other stakeholders to examine alternatives.
