In 2012, New York’s 92nd Street Y launched #GivingTuesday as a way for nonprofit organizations and social causes to harness the power of the holiday spirit. The event, which takes place on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, now helps more than 10,000 organizations spread brand awareness, increase fundraising, and bolster volunteerism.
