We’ll schedule an interview to discuss the process for becoming a Channel 17 Field Producer. Following a preliminary interview, you may be invited apply for the Channel 17 Field Producers Training Program. This program familiarizes applicants with the production process through 6-8 hours of field and studio set-up and digital video recording under the supervision of a Channel 17 staff.

If you are interested in joining the Channel 17 Field Production Team, senior staff will schedule an interview to discuss the process for becoming a Channel 17 Field Producer. Following this preliminary interview, you may be invited apply for the Channel 17 Field Producers Training Program. This program familiarizes applicants with the production process through 6-8 hours of field and studio set-up and digital video recording under the supervision of a Channel 17 staff. A. Interview Includes: Tour of Channel 17 and the Center for Media & Democracy, Description of Channel 17’ production process, Outline of expectations of field producers, Interview, Discussion of Next Steps, Complete and Submit Application B. Training includes: 1. Public Meeting Orientation (2-3 hours) – Prospective field producers attends public meeting with a Channel 17 staff member to gain an overview of the meeting process and understanding of the scope of meeting coverage. Applicants will indicate if they wish to pursue the position. 2. Field Equipment Orientation (90 minutes) – In order to gain a working familiarity with the field equipment package, applicants and Channel 17 staff members will set up the field camera, microphones, audio and necessary lighting. The session will also cover the importance and technique of capturing event related information. (Including names, spelling, agendas, times and special notes.) 3. Meeting/Event Coverage (3-4 hours) – Each prospective field producer will record a meeting or event with the assistance of a Channel 17 staff person. This coverage will provide the applicant with the opportunity to organize the field package with assistance, transport, set up on-site, record a “gavel-to-gavel” meeting/event, break-down and return to Channel 17 studios. De-briefing of the training will follow promptly. 4. Meeting/ Event Coverage (3-4 hours) – Within 7-10 days, the prospective field producer will undertake additional meeting coverage. Following this training, the prospective field producer will meet with Channel 17 senior staff to determine if there is a match between the applicant and the job of Channel 17 Field Producer. Upon offer and acceptance of the position, the applicant enter into a three month review period and be provided with employment paperwork, given first field assignments, accompanied to one or two more meetings by staff and attend regular (monthly/ bi-monthly) Field Producers meetings.
