Friends, fans, students, collaborators, admirers and more pay tribute to beloved musician, mentor, and community member Pete Sutherland.

The concert will be hosted by Will Mentor and Sarah Blair, with performances by Patti Casey and Colin McCaffrey, Tim Cummings, Geoff Gevault and Anna Roberts Gevalt, Tristan Henderson, Oliver Scanlon, Zach Mills, Rebecca Starks, the YTV Youth Commission, and others.

For years the Young Tradition Festival Contest has encouraged young musicians and dancers to keep traditions alive and to support their involvement in traditional music and dance. This year, join us for standout performances from several past winners.

Jurij Fedynskyj, a 48-year-old Ukrainian American, was born in the United States and has resided in Ukraine for the past 23 years. Jurij is a musician, researcher and instrument maker, who for decades has been reviving the lost music and spiritual tradition of the Kobzar. The Kobzar were traveling musicians, storytellers and spiritual leaders who for centuries went all around Ukraine spreading their art and wisdom.

With the rise of Stalin and the Soviet Union control over Ukraine, the Kobzar were killed, their instruments destroyed, and their traditions almost forgotten. Almost. Jurij and his colleagues work to recreate lost traditional instruments, including the kobza, the bandura and the torban.

Jurij has witnessed the current war in Ukraine first-hand. When Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Jurij and his fellow musicians performed at checkpoints, barracks, and shelters. Wherever possible, his guild performed for desperate civilians and soldiers alike.

On his stop in Shelburne Vermont, part of his North American Tour, Jurij carries on the Kobzar tradition, hoping to enrich the world and share the truth about what Ukraine really is through historic songs which have preserved the emotions and national character of Ukraine.

Since Burlington was first settled over two centuries ago it has seen the establishment of a rich historic and architectural legacy, much of which has been lost.

The Strong and State Theaters, St. Paul's Cathedral, Converse School, Cathedral High School, and a neighborhood lost to urban renewal are just of few of the landmarks that still live within the memories of many who grew up in the Burlington area. The industrial waterfront, the clubhouses of the Lake Champlain Yacht Club, and the Overlake Estate are now a distant memory.

Local historian Robert Blanchard reveals the stories of how these and over sixty other lost treasures came to be built, their roles in the city's life, and how they met their end.
