Testimony on Telecom and Power at the Senate Commitee on Transportation.

On Tuesday, Senate Transportation took testimony on right of ways fees for telecom and power. The fees in statute from Title 19 (passed 1997, amended 2007) say the state shall require payment of fair market value for the use of access to state rights of way by utilities. There is a fee waiver option (less or no fee) for when the State determines it's justified. The State of Vermont has not been collecting these right of way fees at all. The committee is considering sending this matter to finance, but members were definitely interested in the potential Transportation Fund revenue - however, the concern clearly remained about the cost of any fees would end up on broadband consumers, still hindering access but in a different way.

Community Media Public Benefit Bill: H.575 and S.181: Vermont House Committee on Government Operations - Review of S.55 Update to Open Meeting Law 02/02/2024

Review of S.55 Update to Open Meeting Law at the House Committee on Government Operations.

On Friday, the committee reviewed the latest draft of the bill from Leg Counsel - version 2.1. One of the primary additions was some terminology around the requirements for retention of audiovisual recordings, with the following language inserted: “For a minimum of 30 days following the approval and posting of the official minutes for an electronic or hybrid meeting, the public body shall retain the audiovisual recording of the meeting and shall post the recording in a designated electronic location.” The Committee also discussed the sequencing of effective dates, but no decisions were made. They will discuss the bill again next Wednesday for possible markup and vote.

Summer Video Production Internship - Applications Open

Town Meeting TV is hiring two paid interns to join our production team for the summer! The program will run from Monday, June 24th until Friday, August 16th (8 weeks). $17 an hour, approximately 8 hours per week. We are looking for folks who have basic or intermediate experience with video recording and editing on Adobe Premiere. Interns will work with the Town Meeting TV Co-Directors to pick stories or events that they would like to cover in our community, practice outreach skills, then shoot and edit video that will be broadcasted on Town Meeting TV's YouTube and cable channels.
