Whistle Where You Work: USDA/FDA Survey Results - Transparency at the State Department Episode 29 11/02/2010

Episode 29, Segment 1: To get to the root of some of the causes of the current food safety problems, a recent survey commissioned by the nonprofit organizatoin Union of Concerned Scientists asked a key public - FDA and USDA scientists- to 'evaluate how well the government uses science to protect the food supply'. Francesca Grifo, shares the enlightening results. Segment 2: Transparency at the State Department: The Foundation for the Future, and FOIA under Obama. Iraq War architect Paul Wolfowitz resigned as World Bank President amidst several scandals. The investigatory loop took 33 months of FOIA processes. What did the investigation find out? Rally & Sit-In for Climate Justice - Rising Tide and 350 VT 10/27/2010

After the Public Service Board approved a natural gas pipeline, activist groups organized a protest on the State House lawn. Rising Tide Vermont, 350 Vermont organized the event and helped to train folks in preperation for direct action and civil disobedience. The protest focuses on a Vermont Gas Systems natural gas pipeline currently under way (Phase one) and proposed to contuinue throughout VT and into NY.

The Will Miller Social Justice Lecture series will bring speakers to the UVM campus and the Burlington community to provide a continuing program of radical analyses of social, ecological and political concerns. The series is dedicated to Will Miller, Vermont’s activist philosopher and UVM Philosophy Professor for 35 years. Jihan Gearon works on the front lines of the global movement for climate justice. She discusses how social movements around the world will mobilize during the UN Climate talks in Cancun this December 2010. Neighborhood Planning Assemblies (NPAs) are grassroots, neighborhood organizations that were established in each of Burlington's seven Wards to empower citizen participation in City government. Working as neighborhood advocacy groups, Neighborhood Planning Assemblies facilitate communication between the citizens of Burlington and city government through regular meetings scheduled in each Ward. Wards 4 & 7 meet the third Tuesday of the month. Meeting place: Robert E. Miller Community Center 130 Gosse Court.

Summer Video Production Internship - Applications Open

Town Meeting TV is hiring two paid interns to join our production team for the summer! The program will run from Monday, June 24th until Friday, August 16th (8 weeks). $17 an hour, approximately 8 hours per week. We are looking for folks who have basic or intermediate experience with video recording and editing on Adobe Premiere. Interns will work with the Town Meeting TV Co-Directors to pick stories or events that they would like to cover in our community, practice outreach skills, then shoot and edit video that will be broadcasted on Town Meeting TV's YouTube and cable channels.
