Cannabis & Opioid Reduction with Dr. Dustin Sulak 04/06/2018

The Champlain Valley Dispensary hosts a free community lecture about using cannabis for pain relief from a national expert in integrative medicine and medical cannabis.

Dr. Dustin Sulak is an integrative medicine pioneer with a focus in osteopathy, mind-body medicine, and medical cannabis. He is the founder of Integr8 Health in Falmouth and Maine Integrative Healthcare in Manchester, two integrative health practices in Maine that treat over 18,000 patients with medical cannabis. He has helped set the standard of care for the use of medical cannabis in a wide variety of conditions, including (chronic) pain, spasticity, seizure disorders, PTSD, and more.

Risky Business: Why Adolescents Love Risk-Taking and How We Can Help Manage It 03/28/2018

Recent research on the adolescent brain clearly demonstrates that adolescents perceive and process risk assessment in ways that are remarkably unlike adults. Changes in receptor site numbers and sensitivity, neurotransmitter action, and social-emotional responses all combine to influence how teens evaluate risk.

During this presentation, Michael Nerney offers ways to think about and talk about adolescent risk reduction, including access to structured risk taking, and the use of “gist” language. These concepts can be applied across the spectrum of adolescent risky behaviors, including drug and alcohol use, sexual activity, and others.
