UVM Housing Action - Vermont Interfaith Action 06/06/2011

The University of Vermont has been called upon to provide increased student housing, freeing up needed housing options for Burlington residents, Vermont Interfaith Action (VIA) called this gathering to once again call on the University to action. VIA is comprised of member faith communities in the Burlington and Central Vermont area. VIA is an affiliate of the PICO Network, which has conducted faith-based organizing for over 30 years.

Burlington Ward 6 NPA Meeting 06/02/2011

Neighborhood Planning Assemblies (NPAs) are grassroots, neighborhood organizations that were established in each of Burlington's seven Wards to encourage citizen participation in City government. Working as neighborhood advocacy groups, Neighborhood Planning Assemblies help improve communication between the citizens of Burlington and City government through regular meetings scheduled in each Ward. Ward 6 meets the first Thursday of the month. Meeting place: Greek Orthodox Church 600 South Willard Street.

Regional Sustainability Project Retreat 05/25/2011

Governor Peter Shumlin provides the opening remarks at the May retreat planned for the Steering Committee and Project Partners involved in the ECOS Project – a 2 year regional sustainability initiative funded with a $1 million grant from the HUD Sustainable Communities Project.

The Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission is the primary agency providing the staff support for this endeavor. The project represents a once in a generation opportunity for the Chittenden County region to address long-term sustainability by developing a vision, goals and strategies that promote appropriate governance and development while ensuring social equity for the region’s population.

The results of the effort will be used in updating the Burlington Legacy Plan, the County’s Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS), the Chittenden County Metropolitan Transportation Plan and the Chittenden County Regional Plan. This initial meeting will introduce the project Steering Committee, review the partnership agreement and project work plan including proposed public engagement activities.

Common Good Vermont: Health Care Tax Credits for Nonprofits 05/18/2011

The new health reform law gives a tax credit to certain small employers that provide health care coverage to their employees, effective with tax years beginning in 2010. An enhanced version of the credit will be effective beginning in 2014. The new law, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, was passed by Congress and was signed by President Obama on March 23, 2010.

Joint Meeting of Metropolitan Planning Organization and Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission 05/18/2011

The Chittenden County Metropolitan Planning Organization (CCMPO) is the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the 18 municipalities of the Chittenden County region. Each year, the CCMPO oversees about $30 million in transportation investments. It evaluates and approves proposed transportation improvement projects and provides a forum for interagency cooperation and public input into funding decisions. It also sponsors and conducts studies, assists local municipalities with planning activities, and develops and updates the County's long range transportation plan (known as the Metropolitan Transportation Plan). Serving about 145,000 people, the CCMPO is Vermont's only MPO.

The Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission (CCRPC) is one of 12 regional planning commissions in Vermont. Based on the 2000 census, Chittenden County is home to approximately one-fourth of Vermont's residents, making it the most populous county in the state.

CCRPC is composed of 19 municipal commissioners and five at-large commissioners (representing Agriculture, Conservation/Environment, Socio-Economic/Housing, and Transportation). The legislative body of each of Chittenden County's municipalities selects its own commissioner and alternate commissioner. The Full Commission selects the five at-large representatives. Each commissioner has one vote.

CCRPC's regular monthly meeting is on the fourth Monday of the month at 6:00pm in the Main Conference Room. These meetings are open to the public.
