Burlington Wards 2 & 3 NPA Meeting 10/11/2012

Neighborhood Planning Assemblies (NPAs) are grassroots, neighborhood organizations that were established in each of Burlington's seven Wards to encourage citizen participation in City government. Working as neighborhood advocacy groups, Neighborhood Planning Assemblies help improve communication between the citizens of Burlington and City government through regular meetings scheduled in each Ward. Wards 2 & 3 meet the second Thursday of the month. Meeting place: McClure Multi-Generational Center 241 North Winooski Avenue, Next to QTees. Institute For Civic Engagement: John Collins - Global Palestine 10/11/2012

Part of Burlington College's Institute for Civic Engagement speaker series. As an author and professor John Collins' work focuses on themes of globalization, nationalism, colonialism, violence, memory, political activism, and media criticism. John Collins is professor and chair of global studies at St. Lawrence University in New York. He is the author of Occupied By Memory: The Intifada Generation and The Palestinian State of Emergency and is co-editor, with Ross Glover, of Collateral Language: A User's Guide to America's New War. His articles and reviews have appeared in the Journal of Palestine Studies, Social Text, Globalization, and Middle East Report, among other publications. He holds a Ph.D. in comparative studies in discourse and society from the University of Minnesota, where he was a MacArthur Scholar.

St. Michael's College: Leah Bolger - President, Veterans for Peace 10/11/2012

After serving 20 years in the Navy, Commander Leah Bolger retired and became the first female president of Veterans for Peace. Her talk is part of the Burlington Peace and Justice Center's Cost of War series and is co-sponsored by the Will Miller Social Justice Lecture Series and the Saint Michael's Peace and Justice Club, Harris and Frances Block Foundation, Will Miller Green Mountain Veterans for Peace, and Women's International League for Peace and Freedom.

Summer Video Production Internship - Applications Open

Town Meeting TV is hiring two paid interns to join our production team for the summer! The program will run from Monday, June 24th until Friday, August 16th (8 weeks). $17 an hour, approximately 8 hours per week. We are looking for folks who have basic or intermediate experience with video recording and editing on Adobe Premiere. Interns will work with the Town Meeting TV Co-Directors to pick stories or events that they would like to cover in our community, practice outreach skills, then shoot and edit video that will be broadcasted on Town Meeting TV's YouTube and cable channels.
