Since his college days half a century ago, Ethan Allen Institute President John McClaughry has been a student and acolyte of the career and philosophy of the author of the Declaration of Independence. For the past 18 years the Ethan Allen Institute, founded on Jeffersonian principles, has sponsored a Jefferson observance during the month of Mr. Jefferson's birthday, April 13th. This talk provides an excellent opportunity to learn more about Mr. Jefferson's economic philosophy and its relevance to dwellers in the 21st Century, from a well informed and entertaining speaker..

Burlington Wards 4 & 7 NPA Meeting 04/17/2012

Neighborhood Planning Assemblies (NPAs) are grassroots, neighborhood organizations that were established in each of Burlington's seven Wards to empower citizen participation in City government. Working as neighborhood advocacy groups, Neighborhood Planning Assemblies facilitate communication between the citizens of Burlington and city government through regular meetings scheduled in each Ward. Wards 4 & 7 meet the third Tuesday of the month. Meeting place: Robert E. Miller Community Center 130 Gosse Court.

Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger: Mayor Miro Weinberger Appoints Ian P. Carleton as City Attorney 04/16/2012

Mayor Miro Weinberger announces the appointment of Ian P. Carleton, Esq. as City Attorney for the City of Burlington. Carleton currently is a partner and shareholder at the Burlington law firm Sheehey Furlong & Behm, P.C. and a former Burlington City Council President. The Board of Finance and City Council takes up the appointment at their April 30, 2012 meeting. Carleton shared that one of his key priorities will be to resolve the Burlington Telecom-related litigation in a manner that is most favorable to the City and its residents.

Congressman Peter Welch: Effort to Avert Scheduled Doubling of Student Loan Interest Rates 04/16/2012

With federally subsidized Stafford Student loan interest rates set to double on July 1st, Rep. Peter Welch announces efforts to block the increase.
The announcement comes as student loan debt is reaching a crisis point. According to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, student loan debt has reached $870 billion. That number exceeds credit card and auto loan debt and is expected to continue rising.
Welch is joined by Cody Paiva, a UVM junior; Patrick Mangus, a recent graduate of CCV; Ben Truman, a parent of a student entering college; and Don Vickers, President and CEO of Vermont Student Assistance Corporation (VSAC), to discuss legislation he is pushing in the U.S House to avert the scheduled rate hike.

CCTV Receives NEH Grant to Support Community Archives

CCTV Center for Media & Democracy is pleased to announce receipt of a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Humanities Collections and Reference Resources grant alongside 32 peer archival institutions across the country.
