Rally and March for George Floyd at Battery Park 05/30/2020

Organized by Peace and Justice Center and Black Lives Matter Burlington, a thousand or more people gathered at Battery Park in Burlington to rally in protest of the killing of George Floyd. Occurring alongside is a car rally and march to the Burlington Police Department.

Black Lives Matter VT presents "My Sister's Keeper Challenge" Conference on August 31, 2017, in Stowe, Vermont. The event features speakers and discussions where women in Vermont unite against racism.

Discussions include "Speaking Our Truths" with Vermont State Representative Kiah Morris, "Lifting As We Climb" keynote address from Dr. Dottie Morris of Keene State College, and Denise Dunbar's perspective on the "Reading to End Racism" program in Vermont public schools.

#BlackLivesMatter in the Trump Era 02/23/2017

Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor writes on black politics, social movements, and racial inequality in the United States. She is an assistant professor in the African American Studies department at Princeton University. According to Taylor, the Black Lives Matter movement has awakened a new generation of activists.

In her recent book, "From #BlackLivesMatter to Black Liberation," she offers a stirring and insightful analysis of the historical and contemporary ravages of racism and persistence of structural inequality, such as mass incarceration and Black unemployment. She argues that this new struggle against police violence holds the potential to reignite a broader push for Black liberation.

March on Montpelier in Solidarity with Women 01/21/2017

An estimated 15,000 people came out for the Women's March on Montpelier.

In solidarity with all the women who will march on Washington, Vermonters meet at Montpelier High School and march to the Statehouse to send a message to our new president-elect.

In solidarity with our partners and children for the protection of our rights, our safety, our health, and our families -- recognizing that our vibrant and diverse communities are the strength of our country.

Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebrations: Civil Rights Panel - A Vision for Civil Rights in Vermont 01/16/2017

On January 16, 2017, ECHO, in partnership with the City of Burlington, will host the 5th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Community Celebration.

This FREE EVENT is part of a nationwide initiative to make MLK Day a "day on, not a day off," in which communities engage their citizenry in meaningful service and reflection. Each year, adults and children gather to explore issues of diversity and inclusion through story, song, and conversation. This year, we are proud to highlight our community's youth and recognize their leadership in advancing social justice and eliminating racism as part of the City's "My Brother's Keeper" program.

Nekima Levy-Pounds, Keynoter, Burlington Police Chief Brandon del Pozo, respondent. Dr. Nekima Levy-Pounds is a civil rights attorney, freedom fighter, legal scholar, blogger, and nationally recognized expert on issues at the intersections of race, public policy, economic justice, public education, juvenile justice, and the criminal justice system. In 2016, she received the Distinguished Service Award from the Governor's Commission on Martin Luther King Day. In 2015, she was named one of “40 Under 40” by Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal. In 2014, she was named a “Minnesota Attorney of the Year” by Minnesota Lawyer and recognized as one of “50 Under 50 Most Influential Law Professors of Color in the Country” by Lawyers of Color magazine. She currently serves as the President of the Minneapolis NAACP and as an advisor to Black Lives Matter Minneapolis.

There are two moderators who ask them a series of questions focused on Police Stop Data released in VT, as well as subjects of mass incarceration and racial disparities in schools and law enforcement.

CCTV Center for Media & Democracy is pleased to announce receipt of a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Humanities Collections and Reference Resources grant alongside 32 peer archival institutions across the country.
