Budget

U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) secured $500,000  from the federal Office of Juvenile Justice towards after school programs. The Vermont Department of Education will administer the money. The awards will be split between 27 school programs and will reach more than 2,500 students. Program funding ranges between $7,000 and $46,470 and provide a variety of programs across all grade levels. Three summer programs are featured at the press conference: Linking Learning to Life in Burlington and Bradford; Girls Move Mountains based in Montpelier; and the Fairfield Summer Program in Fairfield.

U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) pushes to make federal regulators enforce a law against excessive oil market speculation that experts say has driven up gasoline prices. 
Sanders also addresses congressional budget negotiations. A member of the Senate Budget Committee, Sanders explains his position that any deficit-reduction package match new revenue with spending cuts.
