Common Good Vermont: Real Life Application of the Culture of Accountability 03/21/2013

In 2012, seventeen Vermont nonprofits took up the challenge to strengthen their measurement capacity, better serve their clients and increase their sustainability through a federally funded project called Benchmarks for a Better Vermont. Leaders from the 12 month BBVT Performance Institute   discuss what they have gained and learned, along with the challenges of building their internal capacity for performance management using Results Based Accountability (RBA).

Common Good Vermont: Results Based Accountability 101 with Trine Bech, Esq. 03/21/2013

Trine Bech presents Results Based Accountability 101 at the Vermont Nonprofit Conference 2013 held at Lake Morey Resort on March 21st. Find more information on the Conference.

Results Based Accountability ™ provides nonprofit organizations with a powerful, practical way to measure impact, manage performance, build partnerships and tell your story in ways that strengthen your organization, increase sustainability and improve community well-being. The workshop features:

  • Overview of the RBA framework,
  • Models of the five steps for developing Performance Measures, and,
  • Examples for “turning the curve” on Program Accountability.

RBA is outlined in “Trying Hard is Not Good Enough” and pioneered by Mark Friedman. RBA was first adopted in Vermont more than a decade ago, under the leadership of Con Hogan and the Vermont Agency of Human Services and by the United Way of Chittenden County–among others. Currently, Benchmarks for a Better Vermont is implementing a federal grant to increase the number of nonprofits using the RBA model and to connect them with policy makers to “turn the curve” on pressing community challenges.

At the Vermont Nonprofit Conference 2013, UVM's Center for Rural Studies presents how to access, use and best present federal and locally produced data to conduct market research, write grant applications and evaluate programs. Media Maven: 7th Annual Media Maven Luncheon: A Picture is Worth 1000 Words: Data Visualization for Nonprofits 09/21/2012

At the 7th Annual NPO Luncheon, CCTV and Common Good Vermont presented a lively panel to outline what it takes for your organization to become a data driven culture and use data visualization (Maps and Infographics) to tell your organization's story. Panelists include: Lauren-Glenn Davitian (on the data driven nonprofit), cartographer Bill Morris (on Burlington Neighborhoods Mapping Project), Leslie Pelch (Vermont Center for Geographic Information) and Peter Kriff (of SILK on Best Practices in Infographics). Andrea is an internationally respected gender marketing expert, speaker and writer. While she focuses on women as the leading indicators of consumer behavior, she also emphasizes that 21st Century men are starting to travel similar buying paths. Andrea believes that storytelling and cause marketing are key ways to present a brand’s facts and attributes to today’s consumer – no gender about it. Andrea contributes to a wide range of publications/blogs, including HuffingtonPost.com, MPDailyfix.com, TomPeters.com, Women-omics.com, and LearnedOnWomen.com - where she presents her most current analysis of consumer/cultural shifts and marketing best practices.
