Attorney General Charity Clark: Announcing Lawsuit Against Meta for Instagram’s Harm to Teens’ Mental Health 10/24/2023

Attorney General Charity Clark announces the filing of a ground-breaking consumer protection lawsuit. The lawsuit will be filed as part of a coordinated,
nationwide enforcement action to protect youth. Attorney General Clark is joined by members of her office’s Consumer Protection Unit.

Attorney General Charity Clark has sued Meta to hold the company accountable for its contribution to the mental health crisis that grips teens in America and Vermont. The lawsuit, which targets Instagram, alleges Meta designed Instagram to cause young people to use the platform compulsively and excessively. Meta did this to maximize the time young users spend on the platform in order to maximize the company’s advertising revenue. In addition to causing compulsive use, Instagram poses other serious mental health risks to youth, which Meta knows and continues to perpetuate.

"Famous Democrat & Harvard Law Professor Emeritus Alan Dershowitz filed his statement, which appeared on the Court Docket on Oct. 20, 2021, in support of former President Donald Trump's right to freedom of speech on Facebook. This case is currently before the Federal Court in Miami, Florida, Trump v. Facebook & Mark Zuckerberg. Zuckerberg's attorneys are arguing that the case should be moved to California. Meanwhile, Trump's attorneys are filing statements by various people, the most surprising to many people is that Democrat and Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz is still in favor of freedom of speech, even for former President Trump. This was mentioned by many news sources on Oct. 20, 2021."
