Governor Phil Scott and other officials hold their regular weekly press conference on Wednesday. Governor Scott is joined by Treasurer Pieciak and housing officials to announce the first $50 million of the Treasurer’s Office’s $85 million local investment program. The Juxtaposition: Equal Protection: Diversity or Justice? 07/12/2023

Host Rev. Mark Hughes is joined by guests Christine Longmore-Hughes, Director of the Richard Kemp Center, and Decon Roy V. Hill II, RJA BoD, about issues affecting the Black folks and Black folks effecting change.

Both the majority and the minority opinions in Thursday’s ruling cited the clause, using different interpretations. Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. wrote that race-based admissions programs “cannot be reconciled with the guarantees of the Equal Protection Clause,” while Sonia Sotomayor wrote in a dissent that the decision “subverts the constitutional guarantee of equal protection by further entrenching racial inequality in education.”

The Supreme Court's decision to terminate affirmative action not only disregards the persistent racial disparities in education but also threatens the progress made in achieving racial justice and equity across all sectors of society. Affirmative action was a vital policy tool aimed at dismantling systemic barriers and leveling the playing field for marginalized communities. Its elimination perpetuates systemic inequality and denies equal opportunities for those historically disenfranchised.

Learn about how zoning policies have changed development patterns over time, what the current barriers to allowing housing options are, new state laws aimed at increasing housing for everyone, and opportunities for new neighborhood-scale housing citywide.

Chittenden County Homeless Alliance Housing Meeting 06/08/2023

The Chittenden County Homeless Alliance (CCHA) is holding a community meeting on Thursday, June 8th at 4:30 in the South Burlington Library. The CCHA is comprised of individuals and organizations in Chittenden County who provide support services and resources for people experiencing homelessness or housing instability and who want to work together to make homelessness rare and brief. The CCHA meets monthly, we hold two community meetings every year with the goals of 1.) Providing information to the community about how the organizations are working together to make homelessness rare and brief in the community and 2.) Encouraging community members to participate with the CCHA for advocacy and to ensure our work is informed and guided by members of the community.

The CCHA is particularly interested in our work being informed and guided by community members with have lived experience of homelessness. This input will help inform and improve the services the organizations provide in the community and guides strategic planning and resource allocation.

Systemic racism adversely impacts the health and wellness of Black folks, places at risk our economic development and the social health and wellness of everyone, and threatens our democracy. The Richard Kemp Center was created to center the needs of the Black community in rectifying racial inequity by serving as a cultural broker in the expanding but historically ineffective, inefficient, and nonexistent programs and services to marginalized communities. It is the legacy-maker at the intersection of the Black community’s wellness, culture.

Summer Video Production Internship - Applications Open

Town Meeting TV is hiring two paid interns to join our production team for the summer! The program will run from Monday, June 24th until Friday, August 16th (8 weeks). $17 an hour, approximately 8 hours per week. We are looking for folks who have basic or intermediate experience with video recording and editing on Adobe Premiere. Interns will work with the Town Meeting TV Co-Directors to pick stories or events that they would like to cover in our community, practice outreach skills, then shoot and edit video that will be broadcasted on Town Meeting TV's YouTube and cable channels.
