U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) host a meeting of community health center leaders from throughout Vermont followed by Sanders and health center representatives Beth Wennar, Board member from Battenkill Valley Health Center, Eric Medved, Vice President of Medicine, Gifford Health Center, and Martha Halnon, Executive Director, 5THA Mountain Health Center share perspectives on the Community Health Center initiatives in Vermont. 

Altogether, the eight current Federally-Qualified Health Centers operating now in Vermont served more than 130,000 patients last year, one of the highest participation rates in the country. The $2.4 million in new funding released by the Department of Health and Human Services for three additional Vermont centers will serve about 33,000 additional patients. In addition, about 25,000 Vermonters received dental care at community health centers, a number which will also rise.

U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who serves on the Senate energy and environment committees, will be joined on Monday by Gov. Peter Shumlin and representatives of IBM, Sandia National Laboratories, and the U.S. Department of Energy to launch the Vermont Photovoltaic Regional Test Center.

The new center, one of only five in the United States, will enable research on integrating solar panels into the statewide smart grid.
