One focus of the new center will be energy efficiency, a field where Vermont already is a national leader. The center also will work on sustainable energy, economic development and the implementation of so-called smart grid technology that will make Vermont the first state in the nation to provide nearly all energy consumers greater control over their power consumption.

Senator Bernie Sanders: Vermont After School Programs Receive Federal Funds 06/17/2011

U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) secured $500,000 from the federal Office of Juvenile Justice towards after school programs. The Vermont Department of Education will administer the money. The awards will be split between 27 school programs and will reach more than 2,500 students. Program funding ranges between $7,000 and $46,470 and provide a variety of programs across all grade levels. Three summer programs are featured at the press conference: Linking Learning to Life in Burlington and Bradford; Girls Move Mountains based in Montpelier; and the Fairfield Summer Program in Fairfield.
