FOCUS: Wind Turbines in The Green Mountain National Forest 10/04/2016

Annette Smith, Director of Vermonters for a Clean Environment and Representative Marianna Gamache, of the Vermont Legislature Natural Resources and Energy Committee, talk with host Margaret Harrington about the installation of the first industrial wind turbines in a national forest in the United States. Governor Shumlin officiated at a private ribbon cutting ceremony on private land in September to mark this 'first' which is approved by industrial turbine energy supporters like VPIRG, the Vermont Public Interest Research Group, but resisted by Vermont conservationists. Annette Smith brings up storm water permit issues and Rep. Gamache tells us what it was like to be turned away from entrance to Gov. Shumlin's ribbon cutting which was in conjunction with the cutting of beech trees in the now former bear habitat.

Bright Street Cooperative Grand Opening 09/01/2016

Senator Leahy and Secretary Castro attend the grand opening of the Bright Street housing cooperative developed by Housing Vermont and the Champlain Housing Trust. The co-op was developed with funding from federal housing programs championed by Leahy on the Senate Appropriations Committee, including HOME, the Community Development Block Grant program, and NeighborWorks America, and leverages over $7 million in federal low income housing tax credits. Mayor Weinberger introduces the grand opening and we hear from a resident, representatives of Senator Sanders and Representative Welch's office, as well as Champlain Housing Trust and Housing Vermont.

Liisa Reimann Rivera - Originally from England, Liisa has lived in Burlington since 2006. She earned her Master's in Historic Preservation from the University of Vermont and is a principal with Blue Brick Preservation. Liisa lives in a 1954 ranch house, whose historic wooden windows she thinks are of a genius design seldom seen since, in Burlington's New North End. Liisa's passions include historic industrial buildings, firehouses and little-known builder-architects of the vernacular landscape.

Ron Wanamaker - Ron has been a member of the Board since 2007 and has served as Vice President and President. A passionate preservationist, he continues to serve on the Education Committee for Preservation Burlington and is also a member of Burlington’s Design Advisory Board. A contractor since 1988, he has lived and worked in Burlington since 1998 and managed Wanamaker Restoration as well as Champlain Valley Millworks.

Summer Video Production Internship - Applications Open

Town Meeting TV is hiring two paid interns to join our production team for the summer! The program will run from Monday, June 24th until Friday, August 16th (8 weeks). $17 an hour, approximately 8 hours per week. We are looking for folks who have basic or intermediate experience with video recording and editing on Adobe Premiere. Interns will work with the Town Meeting TV Co-Directors to pick stories or events that they would like to cover in our community, practice outreach skills, then shoot and edit video that will be broadcasted on Town Meeting TV's YouTube and cable channels.
