Focus Host, Margaret Harrington, talks with Kevin Kamps of Beyond Nuclear about the massive rally for clean energy in Philadelphia on July 24, the day before the Democratic National Convention.

Kevin Kamps tells us who was there and why millions of people in the United States are against fracking which is a major issue in the presidential race. There is video from the historic rally showing the diversity of activists and ordinary citizens who are alarmed about climate change.

Rebecca Reese, President of Preservation Burlington, and Liisa Reimann, education committee chair and co-host, talk about the Preservation Burlington Educational Program for Students and how it is used to teach future preservationists.

Liisa Reimann Rivera - Originally from England, Liisa has lived in Burlington since 2006. She earned her Master's in Historic Preservation from the University of Vermont and is a principal with Blue Brick Preservation. Liisa lives in a 1954 ranch house, whose historic wooden windows she thinks are of a genius design seldom seen since, in Burlington's New North End. Liisa's passions include historic industrial buildings, firehouses and little-known builder-architects of the vernacular landscape.

Ron Wanamaker - Ron has been a member of the Board since 2007 and has served as Vice President and President. A passionate preservationist, he continues to serve on the Education Committee for Preservation Burlington and is also a member of Burlington’s Design Advisory Board. A contractor since 1988, he has lived and worked in Burlington since 1998 and managed Wanamaker Restoration as well as Champlain Valley Millworks.

Dr. Terence Cuneo and Kari Cuneo of Williston talk about how the fracked gas pipeline in Vermont has negatively impacted their lives.

Terence and Kari Cuneo of Williston, Vermont discuss the State of Vermont’s threat to seize their land by eminent domain to accommodate the Vermont Gas (VGS) fracked gas pipeline extension through Addison County. They bring us up to date on their problems with the Vermont Department of Public Services and how that agency dealt with the landowners’ right to resist the extension of the fracked gas pipeline onto their properties. Questions raised and answered in this discussion: Does the VGS project make financial sense? Is it good state policy? Does it make ethical sense?

Host Margaret Harrington discusses the Vermont fracked gas pipeline situation with special guest Alex Prolman from Rising Tide Vermont. For the second time in less than a month, on Monday, April 18th, opponents of Vermont Gas Systems’ fracked gas pipeline have taken to the trees to prevent pipeline construction in Addison County.
