Description

Sam Mayfield went to Central Florida to cover voter mobilization and election issues two weeks before election day. Since Florida was a tipping point in the 2000 election and is still a swing state, the organization The UpTake positioned videographers in key states around the US to document various tactics used by both campaigns to turn out voters. While in Florida Sam filmed Barack Obama and Hilary Clinton at a rally in Orlando, she saw heavy lines of early voters turning out to cast early ballots and she interviewed staff and volunteers at both Obama and McCain headquarters. Here is her commentary with some of that footage along with an unexpected encounter by a hostile McCain staff member who threatened to have Mayfield arrested for talking to volunteers.
