Description
In 1993, Producer Anne Barbano of the oral history series LifeStories brought together four members of the early Progressive Coalition that served on the Burlington, Vermont, Board of Aldermen in the early 1980's during the administration of the newly elected mayor Bernie Sanders. Sanders made national news while serving eight years as a "socialist mayor," later serving as both a U.S. congressman and senator before launching his historic presidential bid in 2015. Listen to these progressives as they recall these tumultuous changes in Burlington politics, hinting at what was to come.
