U.S. Senator Peter Welch (D-Vt.) hosts a virtual roundtable to hear from Vermont businesses and organizations about the impact of Trump’s misguided tariff policies and his Trade War. This event will be open to press, who are encouraged to attend and hear directly from impacted Vermonters and Senator Welch.

On Tuesday, Senator Welch took to the Senate floor to blast the proposed tariffs, which would be a tax on Vermonters. Attendees and constituents are invited to share how President Trump’s economic policies will impact their family, farm, or community by sharing their story on Senator Welch’s website.

This follows a roundtable Senator Welch held in St. Albans on Monday, January 27, where he heard from businesses and state and local leaders about the President’s threats to reignite a trade war with Canada, Mexico and China.

On Tuesday, Rep. Laura Sibilia introduced H.11 to the House Energy & Digital Infrastructure Committee. Strengthen telecom infrastructure and protect consumers. Broadband is not a luxury, it’s a necessity. Service is sometimes unreliable, hidden fees. Lack of oversight is part of the problem. The market won’t regulate itself - not enough competition in Vermont. Prohibits misleading advertising, excessive fees, monitoring of VOIP. No one should be left behind. The stakes are high.

On Tuesday, Rep. Chris Morrow introduced H.121 to the House Energy & Digital Infrastructure Committee. Modeled on similar bill passed in New York, the bill proposes to establish a low-cost, low-speed broadband option for low income Vermont households - the suggestion is $15/month for 25Mbs service.

The “Resistance Day of Learning” is hosted with The Lost Mural Project located at Ohavi Zedek Synagogue. Students look at the “The Lost Mural” (a Burlington artifact in the style of Eastern Europe synagogues), and hear from guest speakers who share stories of their own resistance. Speakers include Noor Bulle - Somali heritage; Mugabo Uwilingiyimana - Rwandan heritage; Gordana Pobric - Bosnian heritage; and, Migmar Tsering - Tibetan heritage.
