A video by James Gero. The City of Burlington will dedicate the Champlain 400 Time Capsule on Friday, February 3, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. in the Main Street Landing Performing Arts Center Atrium with unveiling of the monument to follow immediately in the Champlain 400 Plaza on College Street.
The Champlain 400 Time Capsule is a part of the 2009 Strategic Plan of the Vermont Lake Champlain Quadricentennial Commission to assist our future colleagues of the Lake Champlain Quincentenary Commission with planning for at least one commemorative event in 2109.
The Champlain 400 Time Capsule received funding from The Champlain Valley National Heritage Partnership and the Lake Champlain Basin Program to create a legacy for the 2009 commemoration of the 400th anniversary of Samuel de Champlain’s arrival and European exploration to the lake. Both organizations support this project because it helps to implement the cultural heritage objectives of Opportunities for Action: an Evolving Plan of the Future of Lake Champlain. Other contributors to the project include Burlington Parks and Recreation Department, The Chittenden County Historical Society, Ascension Technology, SE Group Landscape Architects and Trowel Trades.
Contents of the Time Capsule consist of documentation from Quadricentennial Committee members, Abenaki representatives, local dignitaries, local artists, businesses, photographers and others.
