Artful Word: Yaroslavl - Burlington Sister City 05/01/2010

Community producer James Gero's video on the Yaroslavl delegation visit in Burlington April 2010. Burlington established its sister city relationship with Yaroslavl, Russia, in 1988. Since then, exchanges between the two cities have involved mayors, business people, firefighters, jazz musicians, youth orchestras, mural painters, high school students, medical students, nurses, librarians, and the Yaroslavl Torpedoes ice-hockey team. In 1993, Champlain and Trinity Colleges in Burlington sponsored six students from Yaroslavl; since then, dozens of Yaroslavl students have attended Champlain College. In 1997, Burlington Sister City Committee members donated children's books by Vermont authors and illustrators toward the creation of an English-speaking room at the Yaroslavl Children's Library.

Artful Word: Hyde Street Triangle Park Dome Installation Party 04/10/2010

Community producer James Gero's video. Vermonters with disabilities lead the way in neighborhood improvement! Neighbors and students gather with VSAVT for great food, great company, great performances at the installation of a steel and stained glass dome in the Hyde Street triangle park. The stained glass was created by VSAVT Can Do Arts class members at Terry Zigmund's Burlington Community Glass Studio; the dome by John Marius of Champlain Metals. Awareness Theater Company, Burlington City CEDO, H.O. Wheeler kids, Parks & Rec, HowardCenter, Champlain Community Services and area businesses all help neighbors transform the park into a gathering place for talent and good vibes.

In 1984 the Burlington Discover Jazz Festival gave Vermont's flourishing jazz community the recognition it deserved – a celebration combining incredible local talent with jazz legends from every corner of the globe. The generous support of the business community and private donations have allowed The Flynn Center for the Performing Arts, in association with Burlington City Arts, to create what is today the largest multi-cultural event in Vermont. In 2003, the Festival celebrated its 20th Anniversary and ushered in its third decade of bringing America’s truly home-grown art form to the beautiful venue that is Burlington, Vermont. CCTV Receives NEH Grant to Support Community Archives

CCTV Center for Media & Democracy is pleased to announce receipt of a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Humanities Collections and Reference Resources grant alongside 32 peer archival institutions across the country.
