Burlington Wards 4 & 7 NPA Meeting 12/18/2013

Neighborhood Planning Assemblies (NPAs) are grassroots, neighborhood organizations that were established in each of Burlington's seven Wards to empower citizen participation in City government. Working as neighborhood advocacy groups, Neighborhood Planning Assemblies facilitate communication between the citizens of Burlington and city government through regular meetings scheduled in each Ward. Wards 4 & 7 meet the third Tuesday of the month. Meeting place: Robert E. Miller Community Center 130 Gosse Court.

Airport Mitigation 101 Addressing Noise, Families, Neighborhoods 12/09/2013

Calls for a stopping use of F-16 afterburners, putting families back into vacant homes surrounding the airport, and no more home demolitions in the neighborhoods surrounding the airport, are made by Community Activist James Lease and Airport Neighborhood resident, Ray Gonda, prior to a press conference announcing a collaborative planning process by the Cities of Burlington, South Burlington, aimed at addressing issues related to noise abatement and the future use of purchased properties in the greater BTV/Chamberlin School neighborhood.

Collaborative Planning for Airport Noise Abatement 12/09/2013

The Cities of South Burlington and Burlington announce next steps fpr a collaborative planning process with the Chamberlin School neighborhood, Burlington International Airport and other interested parties made possible in part by the award of a Municipal Planning Grant. The collaborative planning process will address issues related to noise abatement and the future use of purchased properties in the greater BTV/Chamberlin School neighborhood.

The goal of this new and important collaboration is to increase the economic representativeness and relevance of Roundtable member survey results as an economic indicator for the Vermont economy, its future trends and opportunities. A secondary goal will be to systematically collect data to construct a 4-quarter moving diffusion index to smooth seasonal volatility and more easily glean underlying trends. Working as neighborhood advocacy groups, Neighborhood Planning Assemblies help improve communication between the citizens of Burlington and City government through regular meetings scheduled in each Ward. Ward 6 meets the first Thursday of the month. Meeting place: Greek Orthodox Church 600 South Willard Street.

Senator Patrick Leahy: Patent Law Abuse Protections 12/04/2013

Senator Patrick Leahy discusses his bipartisan legislation to crack down on so-called “patent trolls.” Leahy’s bill would protect businesses from well-financed shell corporations abusing the patent system by threatening lawsuits – often with the intent of extracting hefty concession payments -- against small businesses in Vermont and across the country for such everyday occurrences as offering wi-fi to their customers or using document scanners in their offices. Jerry Tarrant, the chief operating officer of MyWebGrocer, discusses his business’s experiences with patent trolls, and Leahy’s effort to make reforms necessary to foster innovation and job creation.
