Remembering Sarah Berger

March 14, 2023
We are heartbroken to share the news that Sarah Berger, our loyal friend and long-time Business Manager, died suddenly last week as the result of a house fire at her home in Richford, Vermont.

Sarah joined CCTV in 1995, when we launched the Old North End Community/Technology Center and quickly asserted her steady hand on the financial tiller. She was loyal and true, worked quickly and made multitudes of details look easy. CCTV’s current financial stability is due in large part to her diligence and excellence.

Sarah’s passions included hiking the Green Mountains and the Adirondacks. But she will be widely remembered as a lover of animals and protector of cats. She was a committed activist and an important part of Cat Crusaders, Green Mountain Animal Defenders, and VT-CAN. In 2008, Sarah helped to produce this program on the subject so close to her heart Peggy Larson of the Colchester Spay and Neuter Clinic.

Her friend Pamela Krausz of VT-CAN! shared these recollections from her fellow animal defenders:

“Vermont's cat rescue community lost a true ambassador yesterday. Sarah was passionately involved in Trap-Neuter-Return efforts of feral cats. She routinely fed and provided warming huts/ shelters to several community cat colonies in Franklin County. When friendly, socialized cats or kittens turned up in the cat colonies, she worked tirelessly to find options for them in loving homes. Many of those cats were brought to NCAL for adoption placement, which Sarah was eternally grateful for. Sarah was constantly giving - giving her time, giving her resources, giving her heart - and yet, she was ALWAYS grateful. That's how I will remember Sarah - selflessly devoted to the responsibilities this (not easy) work tasks us with, and overcome with joy when an unlucky cat beats the odds and gets that second chance. It has been an honor to do this work alongside you, Sarah. Don't worry, we will all keep fighting the good fight. Rest in Paws.”
