From Preservation Burlington:
Host Ron Wanamaker chats with guest Charlene Wallace, Board Member and Restoration Committee Chair from the North Star Community Hall (recently the Champlain Club, before that, the German Club / Goethe Lodge).
North Star Community Hall was built 129 years ago by German immigrants who arrived in Burlington in the late 1800s. Their dream: a community space in which to celebrate, provide mutual support, dance, eat, sing, and learn together. Today, with gatherings, dances, music lessons, special events, and live shows filling the calendar, North Star Hall, now a nonprofit, is fulfilling its original purpose. The final phase of our project will be to make the building fully accessible. We're 2/3 of the way toward being able to install a wheelchair lift, an ADA-accessible restroom, putting up the last of the new siding, and weatherizing this historic 130-year-old building.
