Greater Burlington Women's Forum: Trailblazing - Women in Police, Fire, & Corrections 10/03/2018

Women in law enforcement, fire fighting, and corrections spend their days doing their best to keep our community safe. In this forum, women in these challenging careers will share their stories.

We'll hear about what drew them to choose their path, what it took to get there, and the effort and the rewards found in working in these strongly male-dominated fields. We'll learn about the compensation for doing this critical and often dangerous work, and the training and experience required.

With panelists Ingrid Jonas, a division commander (Major) in charge of the Support Services Division of the Vermont State Police; Raysa E Ortega, a former shift supervisor for the VT Department of Corrections; and Kathleen Lanphear, a firefighter with the Burlington Fire Department for 8 years.

Panel Discussion on Sex Offender Status, Treatment, and Accountability in Vermont 01/10/2018

Vermonters for Criminal Justice Reform (VCJR) and the Network of Community Justice Centers in Chittenden County (Burlington, Essex, South Burlington, Williston, & Winooski) present a panel discussion about a Restorative Reintegration Program called Circles of Support and Accountability (CoSA) available to sex offenders coming out of prison by Community Justice Centers across Vermont.

This panel followed a screening of the film "Untouchable" about child sex offenders and the creation of sex offender registries in the US. There is also a Q&A about the situation here in Vermont.

Panel members include: Bess O’Brien, currently filming a documentary here in Vermont about the CoSA Program; Kathy Fox, Associate Dean at UVM who has done research on the CoSA Program; Gary Marvel, VT Treatment Program for Sexual Aggressors Chief, VT Department of Corrections; Toni Monsey, Development Psychologist and Advocate; and Sharon Fialco, Advocate and Volunteer Member of a Circle of Support and Accountability in VT.
