Fair Housing Month: Fair Housing Month Kickoff Keynote with Cashauna Hill 04/03/2025

Please join us for the Fair Housing Month Kickoff event to start off a month full of fair housing education, advocacy, and community building. This event includes a reception with refreshments and a thoughtful presentation from our keynote speaker, Cashauna Hill of the Redress Movement. She will be discussing the the history of housing discrimination in America and tools for mobilization at the local and state levels to create systems that lead to just access to housing. 

This presentation and discussion builds on last year’s Fair Housing Month keynote with Leah Rothstein and Richard Rothstein, authors of Just Action: How to Challenge Segregation Enacted Under the Color of Law. Watch recording here.

Burlington Mayor's Press Conference: Champlain Street Park Grand Reopening Celebration 09/18/2024

Mayor Emma Mulvaney-Stanak will officially reopen the reconstructed Champlain Street playground and park at 187. S. Champlain St in Burlington. The Mayor will be joined by Burlington Parks, Recreation and Waterfront staff and representatives from project donors: T-Mobile (Hometown Grant), KSNRC and CVOEO. 

Event featuring remarks from City officials and donors, ribbon cutting. Join us as CVOEO’s Feeding Chittenden unveils its new name – Feeding Champlain Valley – to better reflect its work throughout the region.

Feeding Champlain Valley has developed new systems and partnerships aimed at connecting people to nutritious food, reducing food waste, and preparing a new generation of food service professionals for successful careers.

Feeding Champlain Valley is also publicly launching a fundraising campaign – the Fund to Feed Champlain Valley – to raise $7.5 million and ensure strategic investments in infrastructure, food access, and capacity.

Just Action: How to Challenge Segregation Enacted Under the Color of Law is the groundbreaking new book that moves beyond the historical analysis of segregation as presented in Richard Rothstein's The Color of Law: A Forgotten History of How Our Government Segregated America, published in 2018. While The Color of Law showed how federal, state, and local governments created and reinforced neighborhood segregation, Just Action takes a bold step forward - offering practical strategies to tear down these systemic barriers.

Emily Heymann, Senior Planner of Williston, joins the Fair Housing Project of CVOEO (Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity) to share tools for effective community engagement in municipal decisions, and strategies for addressing citizen concerns. This workshop is offered as a part a workshop series hosted by the Striving for Equity Project of CVOEO's Housing Advocacy Programs for housing committee members and community housing advocates. CVOEO's Striving for Equity Project supports local housing committees and promotes avenues for citizen housing advocacy to increase the amount inclusive, affordable housing that meets local housing needs.
