CATMA Transportation Summit 2023: Coping with High Fuel Prices in Small & Rural Communities 10/12/2023

A dramatic spike in gasoline and diesel fuel prices during the first half of 2022 has impacted residents living in small cities, towns, and rural communities in Vermont. Hear about the findings, including the larger role of attitudes and beliefs explaining how people respond to higher fuel prices based on their geographical location or socioeconomic characteristics. Results suggest that compact and mixed-use developments, and improved transit options, may be effective means to further reduce travel demand - even in more rural contexts.
