Essex Junction Green Up Day with Cub Scout Pack 630 05/03/2025

On Green Up Day, volunteers head outside to gather trash along the public right of ways, greenbelts, parks. Green Up Day 2025 will take place on Saturday, May 3, 2025. This annual event encourages community members to come together and clean up their neighborhood roads, parks, and waterways.

In 2024, our Vermont communities benefited from more than 13,582 hours of community service completed by Scouts and volunteers – providing an economic benefit of more than $444,540 to our state. Many of Vermont’s State Parks benefitted from Scout service projects preparing them for the summer crowds. Other community service projects included helping to serve food during the holidays at local churches and soup kitchens, providing support at local community events like fairs and town meetings, improvements at community parks, schools, playgrounds, and other town center pieces. In addition, Scouting continues to honor its role as a founding leader in the conservation movement as Vermont youth contributed more than 815 hours to a variety of environmental projects including a large participation in Green Up Day.

Earth Day Burlington Waterfront Cleanup with Rozalia Project 04/26/2025

From 9am-10:30am cleanup at one of 2 locations, then join us to sort and catalog the debris at 11 am Church Street Marketplace in front of City Hall (149 Church St) during the Church Street Marketplace Earth Day Activities! Gloves, buckets and grabbers will be provided.


Rozalia Project has been working on the problem of marine debris since our inception in 2010. We work surface to seafloor, with a focus on urban and coastal waterways and utilize multiple strategies: prevention through education, remediation (cleanup), innovation and solutions-based research.

African Variety Show: Open Space Plan in Burlington 02/27/2025

Host Dr. Wetchi is joined by Sophie Sauvé, Parks Comprehensive Planner at the City of Burlington Parks, Recreation & Waterfront. They discuss the Open Space Plan in Burlington.

Burlington benefits from an abundance of open space totaling almost 50% of its geographic area. The city has a strong history of taking care of these
spaces, from protecting nature to cleaning up polluted areas and maintaining parks. Burlington’s first open space plan was created in 2000. As the city grows, Burlington wants to make sure everyone has fair access to high-quality open spaces. The updated Open Space Plan will focus on recording the city’s open spaces, setting new goals, and creating a clear roadmap for future improvements.

African Variety Show: Climate Change and Vermont's Climate Change Action Office 05/23/2024

From Dr. Wetchi:

Host Dr. Jules Wetchi chats with Sophi Veltrop and Kashka Orlow, members from the Climate Change Action Office. Climate change is now affecting every country on every continent. It is disrupting national economies and affecting lives, costing people, communities and countries dearly today and even more tomorrow.

Sophi Veltrop joined the Climate Action Office in 2023 to support community engagement and communications efforts. In this role she collects and shares public input about climate action and climate-related policy with decision-makers. Her role also includes making State of Vermont climate information meaningful and accessible to Vermonters. Sophi’s background is in non-profit communications and engagement. She has worked for various land conservation organizations and in extracurricular education. She lives in Woodbury.

Kashka Orlow is a consultant with the Consensus Building Institute, working to support the efforts of the Climate Action Office. She is an activist and a mother. As an immigrant herself, she can personally relate to many of the struggles and challenges faced by immigrant and low-income communities. Her goal is to help uplift the voices of those who are not represented in state and local government. She lives in the Old North End in Burlington with her two daughters.
