The Fedynskyj Family Presents: Bless My Homeland Forever 03/31/2025

Featuring Kobzar Jurij Fedynskyj & the Fedynskyj Family.

Jurij Fedynskyj is a Ukrainian-American Ukrainian luthier, researcher, and practitioner of the lost kobzar and torban playing traditions. The kobzars were blind traveling bards (1700-1933) of Eastern Ukraine. They sang moral, historic, and patriotic songs to the accompaniment of the bandura and kobza, the Ukrainian harp-lutes. They were exterminated by Stalin in the 1930's due to their spiritual influence on Ukrainians, under Russian occupation. Last year UNESCO has recognized that tradition as heritage of humanity.

Throughout the past three years, Jurij Fedynskyj has conducted around 600+ free concerts in Ukraine and on the front lines. He also travels to Western countries, as a cultural diplomat, creating a spiritual bridge, uniting countries of the free world with Ukraine, today's leader and defender of the free world. He shares not only the most precious historic songs and music of defense, recalling Ukraine's 300 year struggle for independence, but also explains the texts, history, culture, and philosophy of his nation.

This is first family tour with Jurij's wife and five children. They reside in the village of Kryachkivka, in Ukraine's Eastern Poltava region. Jurij leads the Poltava Kobzar Guild, and hosts the summer music festival, Drevo Rodu Kobzarskoho. Along with his family, they perform historic kozak polyphonic village songs, spiritual hymns of the Kozak Baroque, village dance songs, as well as European and American historical songs of freedom and spiritual defense.

The goal of this tour is to unite Ukraine and America, as defenders of the free world. The genocide in Ukraine has recently entered a new phase, full of uncertainties for both countries. Enemies of the free world are working hard to divide us. The truth of Ukraine must be told. The soul of Ukraine must be felt. Glory to the Truly Free World!

Peace in Ukraine Demonstration 10/04/2023

Peace antiwar group demands to meet with Senator Bernie Sanders. We support a ceasefire and negotiations in the war in Ukraine.

The war in Ukraine has taken tens of thousands of Ukrainian and Russian lives, uprooted millions, contaminated land, air, and water, and worsened the climate crisis. We, the Coalition, are deeply upset, seeing the war divert billions of dollars that could be addressing urgent human needs. We are especially distraught, seeing the F-35 jet bombers flying over our heads, in training to bomb women and children and men in countries around the world -- and to the front lines in the war in Ukraine. We have attempted to speak directly with our elected officials, especially Bernie Sanders, to understand how they plan to end this debacle and continuous military buildup. We have been rebuffed. Together with Code Pink, Veterans for Peace, and The Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom, we are taking part in a week of actions called by the national organization Peace in Ukraine, September 30 – October 8.

Opposition to the escalating war with Russia in Ukraine is growing: A CNN poll shows that 55% of Americans are opposed to any more funding for the war. Skywatch guest, Media Benjamin will talk about the campaign Code Pink is launching in Washington DC in October calling on Congress to do just that: stop the funding now. After decades of pointless wars in Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, and now Ukraine, it's time to build a new antiwar movement to take on the military-industrial complex, the endless wars, the F-35, and all such weapons spending.

The Kobzar's Prayer for Ukraine with Jurij Fedynskyj 05/04/2023

Jurij Fedynskyj, a 48-year-old Ukrainian American, was born in the United States and has resided in Ukraine for the past 23 years. Jurij is a musician, researcher and instrument maker, who for decades has been reviving the lost music and spiritual tradition of the Kobzar. The Kobzar were traveling musicians, storytellers and spiritual leaders who for centuries went all around Ukraine spreading their art and wisdom.

With the rise of Stalin and the Soviet Union control over Ukraine, the Kobzar were killed, their instruments destroyed, and their traditions almost forgotten. Almost. Jurij and his colleagues work to recreate lost traditional instruments, including the kobza, the bandura and the torban.

Jurij has witnessed the current war in Ukraine first-hand. When Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Jurij and his fellow musicians performed at checkpoints, barracks, and shelters. Wherever possible, his guild performed for desperate civilians and soldiers alike.

On his stop in Shelburne Vermont, part of his North American Tour, Jurij carries on the Kobzar tradition, hoping to enrich the world and share the truth about what Ukraine really is through historic songs which have preserved the emotions and national character of Ukraine.
