Progressives have consistently supported the rights and interests of workers and their unions. In January, 2023, 2300 support staff at the UVM Medical Center won a union election in an 86% landslide. They are now in negotiations with the administration for a first contract. Their priorities include Patient and Worker Safety, addressing Short Staffing, and Livable Wages for All. We hear from 3 members of the bargaining team.

UVM Medical Center Design Charette for Noise Barrier 10/03/2018

UVM Medical Center hosts a design charrette for a new noise barrier wall that the hospital proposes to build on the East side of its main campus to help mitigate noise from traffic in and around our loading dock and perimeter road.

The noise barrier is proposed at the request of neighbors in the Case Parkway/East Avenue area who are most impacted, and with the input from our acoustical experts. Based on computer modeling, acoustical experts project that a noise barrier built along the outside edge of the hospital perimeter road, running parallel to East Avenue at the top of the embankment, up to 600 feet long and 12 feet high, would produce the maxiumum decrease in noise heard by neighbors. At the charrette, the hospital presents design concepts and collects community input. Experts in attendance include: Architects: E4H (Williston) with Wagner Hodgson Landscape Architects (Burlington); Acoustical Consultants: Resource Systems Group (RSG -- White River Jct.); Civil and Structural Engineers: Engineering Ventures (Burlington); Construction Team: SD Ireland (Burlington) and Whiting Turner (Baltimore).
