Clap your hands, stomp your feet and lift your voices with the Montpelier Community Gospel Choir and the Green Mountain Gospel Choir. As we honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. through the power of gospel music, let's lift up our hands in the spirit of unity and hope. Come and be a part of this exciting work of funding the Richard Kemp Center Annual Sankofa trip to the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

Stop the Harm, Repair the Damage Speak-out on Systemic Violence Against Black Bodies 02/02/2024

After discussions with the family of the young Black man that was assaulted and drugged by our "public safety system" (in his home), we proceed with a speak-out tomorrow afternoon! The gut-wrenching details of this Black young man's story sadly originated and have returned him to the DCF system. His defining moment? The police!

We cannot stand by silently on these matters, allowing them to be normalized anymore. It's time to stop the harm and repair the damage done to Black bodies across Vermont. If this is public safety, we don't want it!

Fifth Annual First African Landing Day 2023 Part 2 08/26/2023

Please join us for 5th Annual Vermont First African Landing Day.

This year’s theme of First African Landing Day “Through the Fire” embodies the resilience and strength of American Descendants of Slavery. For over 15 generations Black folks in the United States have consistently triumphed over seemingly insurmountable oppression.

The Vermont Racial Justice Alliance’s establishment of First African Landing Day was inspired by the creation of the 400 Year African American History Commission and the 1619 Project. Governor Philip B. Scott’s supporting Proclamation encourages Vermonters to “…expand understanding and appreciation of the significance of the arrival of Africans in the United States and the contributions of African Americans in the United States.” The Governor has proclaimed that the 4th Saturday of August “shall be henceforth recognized and Commemorated as First African Landing Day in Vermont”.
