Bike Ride to UVM Palestine Solidarity Encampment 05/06/2024

Community members ride their bikes in community from Battery Park to the University of Vermont (UVM) Campus where the Palestine Solidarity Encampment is.

University of Vermont (UVM) students host an encampment for divestment on the Andrew Harris Commons. The University announced that it will cancel Linda Thomas Greenfield’s commencement speech.

Robin Lloyd and Jerome Lipani are joined from Quebec, by Katah and Sam Kerson to discuss their book just published by Fomite Press here in Burlington; "Gaza, Punishing the Innocent" Lino -cuts by Sam Kerson edited and coordinated by Katah, published by Fomite Press. "Gaza, Punishing the Innocent" is a collection of lino-cuts etched by Sam Kerson and originally printed by Katah at her Atelier du Livre in Quebec. The Lino cut images are supported by texts from the UN report on the battle of Gaza that took place during the winter of 2008 and 2009. "Gaza Punishing the Innocent" is a Dragon Dance Theatre production.

University of Vermont (UVM) students host an encampment for divestment on the Andrew Harris Commons. UVM student organizers demand from the UVM administration the following: disclosure of UVM investments, divestment from all companies involved in the occupation of Palestine, an academic boycott of Israeli institutions, cancel Linda Thomas Greenfield’s commencement speech, and amnesty for all students engaged in the protest.

Africa Day is on May 11th, 2024. Africa Day (formerly African Freedom Day and African Liberation Day) is the annual commemoration of the foundation of the Organization of African Unity on 25 May 1963. It is celebrated in various countries on the African continent as well as around the world. The organization was transformed into the African Union on 9 July 2002, in Durban, South Africa, but the holiday continues to be celebrated on 25 May.

Henrietta Szold was one of the most important Jewish leaders of the 20th century. Her long life, from 1860 to 1945, spanned some of the most turbulent years in modern history. The events of that time shaped the lives of millions of people and are woven into the fabric of Szold’s life story.

Long-time OZ member Linda Kopper, who serves as President of Hadassah Vermont, explores the “two lives” of Henrietta Szold, and discusses how her legacy lives on today.
