Burlington Sister City Meetings - Honfleur: Click and Collect 03/29/2021

This show is part of a series of conversations with Burlington's sister city of Honfleur, France, so far centered around the COVID-19 pandemic.

This particular conversation focuses on a "Click and Collect" e-commerce platform that was set up by the city of Honfleur to help non-essential local merchants deal with mandated COVID restrictions/closings imposed on their businesses and maintain their customer base.

VICII: Sister City - Foreign Diplomacy Nicaragua and Venezuela 02/17/2021

The Vermont Institute of Community and International Involvement (VICII) holds a forum on our Sister City relationship with Bilwi (Puerto Cabezas), Nicaragua based on mutual friendship, and on US foreign policy, as it relates to Nicaragua and Venezuela.

The forum includes photographer and teacher Dan Higgins, who has been involved with the Burlington/ Puerto Cabezas Sister City Program since its inception; he has made photographs and videos to connect with the social life of Puerto Cabezas, as well as to promote the sister city relationship in Vermont. Former Mayor Peter Clavelle promoted sister city relationships during his time as mayor, and has visited ‘Port’ many times and is currently on the board; he is also chair of the Vermont Council on World Affairs. Retired teacher Peter Lackowski, a friend of Bolivian Venezuela, travelled to Venezuela for the first time in 2005, and was drawn back six times, the last time in the very first days of 2020.

VICII: Coming into Force - Enforcement of the UN Nuclear Ban 01/13/2021

The Vermont Institute of International and Community Involvement (VICII), the Association of Africans Living in Vermont (AALV) and the Caroline Fund are pleased to invite you to this week's session. We're joined on Zoom by Dr. John Reuwer for a talk and discussion about the UN Nuclear Ban.

In a major victory toward nuclear abolition, the United Nations has ratified the Treaty to Prohibit Nuclear Weapons, which will come into force in international law on January 22, 2021. After that date, all activities supporting nuclear weapons will be illegal for the parties. The implications of this for the future makes for a fascinating discussion.

John Reuwer, M.D., is a member of Physicians for Social Responsibility Committee to Abolish Nuclear Weapons, and member of the board of World BEYOND War.
