Celebration of life for Mark Utter held at Main Street Landing in Burlington, VT.

    From the organizers:

Join us as we celebrate the life and legacy of Mark Utter — a brilliant communicator, advocate, and artist who used humor and creativity to challenge assumptions and expand minds.

Mark’s memorial is a heartfelt blend of humor, storytelling, and remembrance, highlighting the many ways he inspired those around him. Friends, colleagues, creative collaborators, and fellow advocates share their memories, interwoven with selections from Mark’s work — including his award-winning film I Am in Here and his beloved CCTV talk show, The Uttering Mind.

We are honored to have actor Paul Schnabel as the MC for the speaker portion of the event.

Thanks to Town Meeting TV for livestreaming and recording the gathering, ensuring that Mark’s impact continues to ripple outward. And a special thank-you to Main Street Landing, our generous host sponsor.

The Future of Recycling Public Meeting

  • April 23, 2025

From Burlington Department of Public Works:

Burlington was a pioneer in establishing a residential recycling program in the early 1990's. Since 2018, the City has evaluated the possibility of different service models with an eye toward sustainability, convenience and cost. This largely stems from a 2018 City Council resolution directing DPW to evaluate a consolidated collection model whereby all 3 waste streams could be picked up by the same operator(s) and condensing the # of days to do so - limiting truck traffic, emissions and inconvenience. There were a series of public meetings in 2020 and 2021, a public survey and public communications about adopting a new model. This effort was paused.

With the recent launch of the ModernGov initiative - to streamline City services, find cost efficiencies and move government services into the 21st century, we have resumed looking at a new path forward for solid waste collection.
