From Dr. Wetchi:
Host Dr. Wetchi is joined by Laura Derrendinger to discuss the legislative intent behind the drafted bill for a phone and social media-free school.
Laura is a mother of 4 children who are 15, 13, 11 and 9. She is also a nurse and worked with Medecins Sans Frontieres and the International Rescue Committee in DR Congo, Darfur Sudan, Niger, Chad, Uganda, Sumatra, Kosovo doing humanitarian relief work before becoming a mother. Now as a volunteer Laura does advocacy and education to parents to share the independent science of how digital and online products impact our health, especially children's health and development. This is a commercial for-profit industry that is hijacking and stealing what is healthy - away from children. One of the best books she encourages communities to use is a course book called "Kids Brains and Screens".
It is the intent of the General Assembly for all students in Vermont to access the benefits of a phone- and social media-free school environment, which promotes academic focus, improved mental health, and increased social cohesion.
L'Assemblée générale souhaite que tous les élèves du Vermont aient accès aux avantages d'un environnement scolaire sans téléphone ni réseaux sociaux, qui favorise la concentration académique, l'amélioration de la santé mentale et une cohésion sociale accrue.
