The Vermont State Board of Education oversees education quality in the State. This fall, they appointed a commission of practitioners to revise the education quality standards, State Board Rule 2100. These rules will guide a new education system, focused on personalized learning, flexible pathways to graduation, and high expectations for all students.

In addition to the 470 bachelor degrees and 43 master degrees, Saint Michael’s College confers honorary doctor of humane letters degrees to four individuals including Mark Shields and Alice Boutin, the first “first lady” of Saint Michael's College, wife of the late Saint Michael’s President Bernard Boutin; Patrick Robins, a 1961 graduate of Saint Michael’s, Burlington community leader and founder of Symquest Group, and Father Daniel Riley, ofm, a campus minister at St. Bonaventure University, and man regarded by some as “a living saint.”

His life experience in these areas has afforded him a wide range of experience as related to racism in our state, country and throughout the military world. His stories as a real life witness express the true nature of what it was like, what we see today and what the vision for our future may hold as we explore undoing racism in our community.
