Reinterment Ceremony for War of 1812 Soldiers - 06/04/2022
From Preservation Burlington:
During the War of 1812, Burlington was used as a supply depot, campground, and major hospital site by the United States Army. Research shows that the military owned property in what is now the Old North End of Burlington between North Street and Pearl Street including Battery Park. The area was referred to as "Camp Burlington" and housed approximately 3,000 to 4,500 troops at various times between 1812 and 1815.
As a result of road construction along North Street by VTrans between 2002 and 2005, the remains of 20+ soldiers were excavated. In 2020, a housing construction project on Elmwood Avenue uncovered another 17 graves; 7 of the remains were excavated. An estimated 500 soldiers are believed to have been buried in Burlington between 1812 and 1815, and military records indicate that more than 550 soldiers died in Burlington. A columbarium and headstone have been placed by the City of Burlington in Lakeview Cemetery as the final resting place for the 30 exhumed soldiers.
The Army National Guard's Honor Guard perform the military funerary ceremony and the Agency of Commerce and Community Development Secretary Lindsay Kurrle accepts the flag on behalf of Vermonters.

Winooski Centennial: People, Places, and Changing Community Narratives - Photographs with Dan Higgins - 06/04/2022
To celebrate Winooski's Centennial, Dan Higgins (well-known photographer and long-time Winooski resident) has graciously created a special book featuring a curated selection of photographs from Winooski’s 100-year history. Dan shares his collection of photographs at the Centennial Celebration in Rotary Park.
“The images in this book cover the years 1922-2022. Show the book around. Ask someone you don’t know if they can tell you something about one of the photographs. Anyone you encounter in Winooski should be able to recognize at least one image they can tell you something about. What makes a community is not just its collection of stories, but how much sharing there is among residents of those stories. Exchanging stories is one of the best ways of getting to know a place.” - Dan Higgins
