Whistle Where You Work: Genetically Modified Food; WikiLeaks, ep. 28 08/30/2010

WWYW is a multimedia program focusing on issues of accountability, that is produced by the Government Accountability Project, the nation’s leading whistleblower protection and advocacy organization. Episode 28, Genetically Modified food has been a part of the American diet for several yeaqrs-and it's everywhere. 85 percent of U.S. corn, 91 percent of U.S. soybeans. Now, a proposed genetically modified salmon has close to receiving FDA approval. What are the public health risks? The current regulations/legislation covering this new technology? Guests include representatives from Food & Water Watch, and Friends of the Earth. In the second part of the program, the whistleblower website WikiLeaks has caused widespread controversy. Jesselyn Radack discusses WikiLeaks, as well as the cases of Bradley Manning and Thomas Drake, two national security whisltleblowers who are being prosecuted by their own government.

Essex Junction Trustees 08/24/2010

The Essex Junction Trustees is the governing, legislative body for the Municipality of the Village of Essex Junction. The five member board is elected at large within the Village. The board includes the position of Village President. Unlike the appointed chairs of select boards or city councils, the position of president is elected by Australian ballot by Village voters. The three year terms of the Trustees are staggered to provide continuity. The Trustees usually meet twice per month on Tuesday evenings in the meeting room at the Village municipal office building at Five Corners The public is invited to attend all meetings, and may address the board or ask questions during a special “public to be heard” section at the beginning of each meeting.

The Town of Colchester Select Board meets at 7:30 pm on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month at the Colchester Meeting House (formerly the white church) on Main Street in the village. However, sometimes special meetings, locations and times are arranged. The board is responsible for setting the general policy direction, passing ordinances, setting the tax rate, reviewing the budget, supervising the Town Manager and a host of other related tasks.
