Burlington Wards 4 & 7 NPA Meeting 12/20/2011

Neighborhood Planning Assemblies (NPAs) are grassroots, neighborhood organizations that were established in each of Burlington's seven Wards to empower citizen participation in City government. Working as neighborhood advocacy groups, Neighborhood Planning Assemblies facilitate communication between the citizens of Burlington and city government through regular meetings scheduled in each Ward. Wards 4 & 7 meet the third Tuesday of the month. Meeting place: Robert E. Miller Community Center 130 Gosse Court.

Ward5 meet Department of Public Works Building, 645 Pine Street.

Sylvia Allen - History of the Vermont Transit Bus Company 12/04/2011

Sylvia Allen, Author of The People Will Be Served: A History of the Vermont Transit Bus Company, speaks at a meeting of the Chittenden County Historical Society. The Society was founded in 1965 by area residents who shared a deep interest in the history of Chittenden County and the Champlain Valley Region. CCHS is a non-profit membership organization. The Society's mission is to encourage discovery and publication of historical material, to promote original research about the area, to highlight specific topics in our history through informative presentations, and to recognize efforts to preserve our past by making annual awards. Chittenden County includes the Vermont towns and cities of: Bolton, Buel's Gore, Burlington, Colchester, Charlotte, Essex, Essex Junction, Hinesburg, Huntington, Jericho, Milton, Richmond, Shelburne, South Burlington, St. George, Underhill, Westford, Williston and Winooski.

Ward 6 meets the first Thursday of the month. Meeting place: Greek Orthodox Church 600 South Willard Street.

Vermont Public Transit Policy Plan Public Meeting 11/14/2011

Last completed in 2007, the Public Transit Policy Plan outlines the State’s transit policies and goals and develops strategies to meet current and emerging public transit challenges. VTrans is updating this plan, and seeks public input in this second round of meetings to review the draft of the final report and receive input and comments. The Public Transit Policy Plan focuses on public transit services, specifically fixed route, paratransit, transportation brokerage, user-side subsidy, and rideshare/ride-match programs. The plan also addresses coordination and connections among public transit services and with other public transportation modes such as intercity bus and passenger rail, commercial aviation services, and park and ride locations. However, VTrans has separate policy plans for Airports, Rail, Highways, and Pedestrian and Bicycle. In conjunction with these other policy plans, the Public Transit Policy Plan provides the basis for the Vermont Long Range Transportation Business Plan. http://www.kfhgroup.com/vermonttransitplanupdate.htm

Circumferential Highway Task Force Meeting 11/09/2011

Agenda includes: Summary of how Task Force Recommendations Regarding Implementation Projects will be fit into the FY13 Capital Program, Michele Boomhower.
Review Staff-recommended Package of Phase 1: Short Term Implementation Projects for FY13 Capital Program. Since the Governor's May 20, 2011 announcement that the Circumferential Highway - as originally conceived - would not be built, the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission (CCRPC) Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) staff has been coordinating with VTrans, the "CIRC Communities" (Colchester, Essex, Essex Junction, and Williston), and other stakeholders to examine alternatives. The Governor asked the MPO to coordinate a process to identify projects and planning activities to address mobility, congestion, transportation demand, safety, livability, and economic development in the region.
