State of Affairs in the Community and Resources Through CEDO/BPD 11/03/2023

Host Meghan O'Rourke, CCTV, is joined by Sarah Russell, CEDO Special Assistant to End Homelessness, Scott Pavek, CEDO Substance Use Policy Analyst, Rachel Jolly, CEDO Assistant Director, CJC, as well as Lacey-Ann Smith, BPD Community Support Supervisor at BPD, to share information about the City's work.

Sarah shares information about the Chittenden County Homeless Alliance and Coordinated Entry as well as the data around homelessness. Lacey shared information about Crisis, Advocacy and Intervention Programs (CAIP) and what’s happened since 2020. Scott shares information about Overdose Prevention sites and drug checking. Rachel shares information about Pretrial Services and Tamarack programs, the data/anecdotes we’ve observed over the last few years, and the gaps in treatment.

Do you work a late-night shift in downtown Burlington? Are you concerned about public safety, parking, and the rising cost of living in Burlington?

Join us for a public forum to share concerns with city decision makers as we work to improve the working environment for downtown workers. Church Street Marketplace Commissioner Chris Haessly, Parks & Rec Comissioner Lee Morgan, and Burlington City Councilor Mark Barlow are on hand to listen to concerns and discuss possible solutions to the challenges faced by downtown workers.

Maladies & Medicines: Opioids in the Queen City 04/07/2021

The current opioid epidemic has many connections to the past. Champlain College's eighth annual Local History Event features two historians' research on opium, morphine, and opioid addiction in nineteenth-century Burlington.

Independent scholar Gary G. Shattuck presents the history and context of opioids in the Queen City and the State of Vermont in his talk titled "Behind the Curtain: Examining the Causes of Addiction in Nineteenth-Century Vermont."

Champlain College Special Collections Director Erica Donnis presents "The Vibrant Life and Tragic Death of Lucy Benedict Henderson." A resident of Adams and South Union Streets, Mrs. Henderson (1861-1896) was in many ways an ordinary middle class wife and mother, but she suffered from chronic illness, and eventually, morphine addiction.

Press Conference - Attorney General Files Third Opioid-Related Lawsuit 05/21/2019

TJ Donovan will file an opioids-related lawsuit against the Sackler family (executive staff of Purdue Pharma) for their role in creating the opioids epidemic in Vermont. Attorney General Donovan and members of his staff discuss the details of the suit.

This will be the third opioids-related lawsuit filed by the Vermont Attorney General. The Vermont Attorney General’s Office filed suit against Purdue Pharma in September 2018 and filed suit against Cardinal and McKesson, two distributors of opioids, in March 2019.

Media making projects for this cohort will focus on the topics of civic education, local election coverage, and culture/community storytelling. The group will meet under the leadership of Town Meeting TV's Travis Washington from the beginning of February 2026 to the beginning of June 2026, on a schedule agreed upon by the whole cohort.
