My Country is The World Movie Production Invitation 03/07/2013

Melanie Bennett, Associate Producer and Arthur Kanegis, Director/Producer promote the production of their film about World Citizen Garry Davis at the Off Center for Dramatic Arts on March 8 and March 10 at 6:30 and 1:30. Environmentalist, Bill McKibben, at Saint Michael's College gives a talk, “After America’s Hottest Year, It’s Time to Act: FOSSIL FUEL, DIVESTMENT, AND THE FUTURE”.
McKibben’s 1988 book The End of Nature was the first book for a general audience about global warming. He is co-founder and Chair of 350.org, an international climate campaign that works in 188 countries around the world. Bill McKibben is also the 2012 Burlington Free Press Vermonter of the Year.

Global Peace Chant 12/21/2012

15,000,000 people were invited to participate in a 'Global Peace Chant' on Friday, December 21, 2012, among the participants were area residents joining the chant at the O'Brien Community Center in Winooski, Vermont. The purpose of the chant, happening all over the world at the exact same time, is to affirm life and love, contrary to the misinformation regarding the 'Mayan' calendar.

The chant is a simple song from the Yoruba Tribe, roughly translated 'That which the creator has made can never be destroyed', is led by members of A2VT, the Winooski Chorus, area residents and local drummers. More informatin at http://www.oneearth-onevoice.org/

City Market Mosaic of Flavor - Burmese Cooking Class 11/15/2012

Ah Chan, origianlly of Burma, share a recipe for a celebration vegetable stew, Bah-hah-li as part of the City Market Mosaic of Flavor cooking series. In cooperation with the VT Refugee Resettlement Project (VRRP), these classes introduce students to the people nd cooking of 'New Americans' in Vermont.

Recipe (may vary slightly from video):

1 Pound lentils
1 winter squash
3-4 potatoes
1 plantain
3-4 carrots
3 medium Asian eggplants
4-5 small tomatoes

1 onion
2 cloves garlic
1 -inch piece of ginger
salt to taste
turneric to taste
paprika to taste
garam masala to taste

Cover lentils with water in large pot and boil until soft. As lentils cook, coarsely chop vegetables. Saute ginger, garlic, onions. add tumeric and paprika. Add vegetables in order as listed above. Add Garam Masala and salt. Add water to cover vegatables after the eggplant is added, before tomatoes. Cook a bit more. Add lentils to entire mixture, allow to cook a bit to tblend tastes.
