Community producer James Gero visits the Burlington City Arts' curator talk on the recent exhibit of Diana Al Hadid and Dave Kennedy.
Bios of the artists below.
Diana Al-Hadid (b. 1981, Aleppo, Syria) is an American artist currently residing in Brooklyn, NY. She received a BA in Art History and BFA in sculpture from Kent University in 2003, and an MFA in sculpture from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2005. In 2007, Al-Hadid attended the prestigious Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Al-Hadid’s work has been exhibited at institutions such as the DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park, MA; the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts; The Whitney Museum of American Art, NY; the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; and NYU Abu Dhabi, UAE. Residencies and awards include the Siena Art Institute in Italy (2014), the Joan Mitchell Foundation Painters and Sculptors Grant (2011), and the Nucci Award from the USF Graphicstudio in Florida (2010). Diana Al-Hadid is represented by Marianne Boesky Gallery, New York City and Aspen, where she has an upcoming solo exhibition at Marianne Boesky Gallery, NY scheduled for September 2017.
Dave Kennedy (b. 1966) is an American artist currently residing in Tacoma, WA. He received his MFA from the University of Washington for Interdisciplinary Arts and an undergraduate degree in Visual Communication from Western Washington University. Kennedy’s works have been exhibited both locally and internationally at such venues as the Brownsville Museum of Fine Art, Photo Center Northwest, Zhou B Art Center, Chicago Industrial Arts & Design Center, Escuela de Belle Arte in Spain, Rogers Park/West Ridge Historical Society Museum, and the Seattle Art Museum's Gallery. His works have been published globally in such magazines as Art21 and Numéro Cinq. Dave Kennedy has worked as Co-Director and Visiting Lecturer for the University of Washington’s Art in Spain program. Kennedy is a recipient of the 4Culture Individual Project Award; Artist Trust's Grants for Artists Projects; the Joanne Bailey Wilson Endowed Scholarship; and the Vermont Studio Center Fellowship. Kennedy has served on Seattle Art Museum's Blueprint Roundtable panel and has participated as a guest lecturer at the Henry Art Gallery, University of Washington as part of their "Out [O] Fashion" Show. Dave Kennedy is an active member of Photo Center Northwest and represented by Bridge Productions in Seattle, WA.
